A floor worth keeping
Restore the timber you already have.
Established in 1978, Country & Heritage Timber Floors works with existing timber rather than assuming every worn floor needs replacement. From older pine boards and hardwood to parquetry, we recommend the level of work the floor actually needs.
Some engineered timber floors can also be sanded, subject to the thickness and condition of their wear layer. We check this before recommending a full resand.

Full sand & coat
We remove the old coating, prepare the timber and apply a selected coating system. This is suitable where a floor needs a substantial refresh, subject to its condition and construction.

Cut-back polish & recoat
Where an existing coating is sound and compatible, we can prepare the surface and add a coat. This does not remove deep scratches or stains within the timber.

Repairs & floor preparation
We assess damaged boards, loose parquetry, gaps and localised repairs. Filling, replacement timber and extensive hand sanding are quoted according to the floor’s condition.

04
Care
We provide product-specific advice on walking, moving furniture, cleaning and allowing the finish to cure.

Coating choices
A finish that suits the floor and the people using it.
We discuss sheen, appearance, traffic and practical access before recommending a finish.
Two-component water-based polyurethane
Often a strong choice for busy households. Selected products provide durable protection with generally lower odour than solvent-based systems. We offer matt, satin and gloss options where suitable.
Solvent-based polyurethane
Available when a particular floor or specification calls for it. Stronger odours and ventilation requirements need to be considered during application and early curing.
Every coating has limits. Sand, pet claws, furniture movement and spills can still mark timber floors. We explain maintenance and aftercare for the selected product.
Frequently asked questions

FAQ
Will sanding make a lot of dust?
Our equipment and extraction reduce dust, but sanding cannot be dust-free. Remove or protect furniture, electronics, artwork and delicate items before work begins.
Can you sand parquetry or engineered timber?
We regularly work with parquetry. Some engineered floors can be sanded, but their wear layer must be inspected first. We will advise whether sanding is appropriate for your floor.
How long does the work take?
Many sanding and coating jobs take around one to three working days, plus drying and curing time. Repairs, floor area, filling and product choice can affect the programme.
When can I use the floor again?
Walking, replacing furniture and laying rugs have different timeframes. We give you instructions for the coating used on your job; a floor dry enough to walk on may still be curing.
Can you match the original colour?
We can assess matching options, but timber species, age, staining and previous finishes affect the result. Repaired boards or parquetry may remain visibly different.
